Intimate Theater (Bitola) surprised its audience with a new show totally dedicated to women. The latest project “Spring awakening” deals with the problems of female population in our society such as segregation and labeling everything on different levels. In this age of cruel neo-liberalism when woman has a profession and career and on top, she has to be a good mother, housewife, wife and lover, she faces a constant bigotry and intolerance of the society that is uneducated and trained just to tolerate the model WIFE-LEADER. Our show portrays, with a large dose of humor and self-criticism, problems of all women who are actively fighting for their positions and do not fall under anybody’s influence. We look through their weight problems and their constant visits to aerobic classes.
We find them in situations with their male bosses that are regularly unpleasant. We analyzed their desires for extreme sports that give them high adrenaline – as a protective mechanism against the world that surrounds us. And at the end we talk about weddings and the stressful preparations. With a huge dose of humor, we analyze with how many challenges and expectations a woman must face. And the irony to be bigger, she rarely gets recognition- says the director Sofija Ristevska.
It is interesting to mention that it is Sofija’s first time acting. That way, she can learn more about this part of the profession, in order to be more innovative and craftier in her work as a director.
The show is done on texts of Franck Wedekind and documentary materials. The playwright is Biljana Krajcevska.
Cast: Zdravko Stojmirov, Stefanija Milevska and Sofija Ristevska.

Frank Wedekynd (1864-1918) is a German writer who wrote when Freud gave his theory on sexuality in the beginning of the XX-th century. He started as a journalist and an actor, writing poems and pantomime. His first play “Awakening of the spring” is his most popular piece. Very big portion of his production are plays in which the focal point are instincts and passions. He often appeals to provincial morale and social conventions that describe in detail human primordial love and passion. “Awakening of the spring” caused some serious reactions, back then. This piece criticizes the sexually-oppressive culture of the XIX century and portrays very live dramatization of the erotic phantasies. Regarding the controversial themes (puberty, sexuality, rape, child abuse, homosexuality, suicide, abortion) the play was often forbidden or censored. The first time the play was performed in English was in New York in 1917 in front of carefully selected audience. Wedekynd had great influence on expressionism in german dramaturgy and on many writers of Middle Europe.
